The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has informed the Polish government that it has received complaints regarding the lack of legal protection for same-sex couples. Four of these cases are being handled by the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, which launched the court actions in these matters in Poland.

The Convention established the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). Any person who feels his or her rights have been violated under the Convention by a state party can take a case to the Court. Judgments finding violations are binding on the States concerned and they are obliged to execute them.
